We are the not-average accountants for businesses that have outgrown average advice
About
We bring
accounting, business advisory and coaching together
under one roof
— The numbers tell us what’s happening
— Advisory helps us work out what to do about it
— Coaching makes sure the goals and good intentions don’t disappear
We think
01
Strong businesses are built when money, momentum and mindset are all aligned.
02
Good advice should be straight-talking, practical and grounded in real business experience.
03
Clear numbers give you the confidence to make sharper business decisions.
04
The best support feels like a partnership – hands-on, personal and invested in the bigger picture.
Accountants. Advisers. Hype squad.
The Accounts Department was founded in the late ’90s with Michelle’s fairly radical belief that running a business shouldn’t take over your entire life.
She’d seen too many good business owners spending their nights and weekends buried in admin they didn’t enjoy and weren’t especially good at.
A few decades, hundreds of businesses and enough tax returns to wallpaper the office later, the goal of making the numbers side of business feel a whole lot lighter still stands.
But now, the team is bigger, the thinking goes deeper and with Nat also bringing her own business brain to the table, The Accounts Department has entered its next chapter where numbers are just the beginning of the conversation.
Meet Michelle
Business advisor & Financial strategy
Michelle has been in the accounting game since the days you had to get off the phone to use the internet, which means there isn’t much she hasn’t seen tucked away in a set of books by now. She’s worked alongside hundreds of business owners through growth spurts, cashflow hurdles, tax bills, hiring decisions and plot twists.
Her style is practical and no-nonsense. She’ll tell you what the numbers are saying, what she thinks you should pay attention to and, crucially, what you can actually do about it.
Having built The Accounts Department herself while parenting two (now grown) boys, Michelle also knows the view from your side of the screen. She believes business should be enjoyable (even the accounting part), and that having the right financial support gives you more room to build something that’s profitable and actually fun to run.
Meet Natalie
Sales, Strategy & Leadership Coach
Nat has spent more than a decade helping hundreds of business owners back themselves harder, sell with more confidence and grow businesses that match the size of their ambition.
She’s a leading New Zealand sales and mindset coach, a sought-after speaker and the person you want in your corner when procrastination, perfectionism or a sudden case of comparisonitis starts messing with the plan.
Nat knows this stuff from both sides. She’s built profitable businesses, crashed one, picked herself back up and learnt first-hand that what’s going on between your ears can have a very real impact on what’s going on in your bank account.
She’s very good at spotting the genius you’ve become too close to see, the unhelpful story you’ve been telling yourself for far too long and the things you already know you need to do to move the needle in your business.
