Halfway Through the Year and No Idea How You're Tracking? Here's Your Mid-Year Business Review.
Crikey, we're halfway through FY2027 already. If your honest answer to "how's the year going?" is a shrug and a vague sense of "busy," you're not alone, and you're not in trouble. But you are about to run out of runway to do anything about it before year end sneaks up.
A mid-year review isn't a full strategic overhaul. It's not a retreat, a whiteboard session or a five-year plan rewrite. It's twenty honest minutes with your numbers and a few blunt questions.
Why now, specifically?
Six months in is the sweet spot. You've got enough real data behind you to see an actual trend, not just a snapshot, and enough of the year left ahead of you to still change course. Wait until Q4 and you're not reviewing anymore, you're doing damage control.
The questions worth asking yourself
Grab a coffee, close the inbox, and be honest with yourself on these:
Revenue — are you ahead, behind, or roughly where you expected to be when you set the year's targets?
Expenses — sitting where you planned, or has something quietly crept up on you?
Cashflow — do you actually know what's coming in the next 8 to 12 weeks, or are you just watching the bank balance and hoping?
The big decisions — that hire, that price rise, that offer you've been sitting on. Do the numbers actually support it, or are you guessing?
If any of those made you wince a little, that's useful information. That wince is the whole point of the exercise.
What to actually do with the answers
Don't just note it and move on. Pick the one number or decision that's bugging you most, and do something about it this week. That might mean:
Adjusting a budget line that's blown out
Chasing the invoices that are quietly wrecking your cashflow
Having the pricing conversation you've been putting off
Booking twenty minutes with us to sanity-check a big decision before you make it
You don't need to fix everything at once. You need to stop guessing about the one thing that matters most right now.
The bit where we say the obvious thing
A mid-year review is only as useful as the numbers behind it. If your books are three months behind or you're not sure your reports actually reflect what's happening in the business, that's the first thing to sort, not the strategy conversation.
That's exactly what we're here for: clean numbers, straight answers, and a team who'll tell you what the figures are actually saying, not just hand you a report and wish you luck.
